12 Who Care12 Who Care 2008 - Celebrating Our 21st Year
The 12 Who Care Community Service Awards were created twenty one years ago to celebrate those special people making a difference in our communities through their selfless volunteer efforts. By sharing these extraordinary stories, we hope to inspire others to follow their lead. Peek, Cobb, Edwards and Ragatz, attorneys at law, are the proud sponsor of 12 Who Care. 12 Who Care: Mary Warner

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Mary Warner, a 12 Who Care Winner, works with many girls. She makes sure they have basic necessities to help them with their self esteem. 
 
12 Who Care - Letha McAlister

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Each day thousands of people on the First Coast are helped by Community Hospice of Northeast Florida. Hundreds of volunteers go out to provide comfort including Letha McAlister.  
 
12 Who Care 2008 (March): Letha McAlister 
Letha McAlister is a patient/family volunteer for Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, visiting patients both in their homes and in long term care facilities. 
 
12 Who Care 2008 (February): Gustav Egerer 
Dedicated volunteer for the Adult Developmental Program at Cerebral Palsy of Northeast Florida, Gustav Egerer teaches karate to the adult clients. 
 
12 Who Care 2008 (January): Teresa Gilleo 
A Jacksonville resident for over 50 years, Teresa Gilleo has served the American Legion through the American Legion Auxiliary for 35 years. 
 
They're My Heroes--No, He's Our Hero

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- So, who's right? Gus Egerer says the folks at Cerebral Palsy of Northeast Florida are his heroes. They call Gus their hero. 
 
12 Who Care 2008 (April): Mary Warner 
Retired from CSX, Mary Warner stayed active in the National Association of Railway Business Women and became involved with the PACE Center for Girls. 
 
12 Who Care 2008 (May): Charles "Bill" Maurer 
"Mr. Bill" mentors at-risk youth in the State Attorney's "Jailed Juvenile Mentor Program"--juvenile offenders incarcerated as adults for serious criminal offenses.  
 
12 Who Care 2008 (June): Donya Tucker 
Donya Tucker is a volunteer with the Rape Recovery Team at the Women's Center of Jacksonville. 
 
12 Who Care 2008 (June): Bertram Enell Way 
Bert Way has ministered to children for 27 years through the Episcopal Diocese of Florida. 
 
12 Who Care 2008 (July): Valarie Hammonds 
Valarie Hammonds is a dedicated fixture at the Clara White Mission's homeless "training cafe"--"Clara's at the Cathedral". 
 
12 Who Care 2008 (July): Leslie Allen 
Leslie Allen has been involved in 4-H for 29 years--committed to helping 4-H youth and adults create supportive environments to reach their fullest potential.

    Purpose
  • To honor individuals for their extraordinary deeds
  • To encourage and inspire others

    Qualifications
  • The individual must be 18 years of age or older
  • The individual must be a resident of the First Coast
  • The individual cannot be compensated for his or her deeds or service

    Nomination Process
  • Nominations will be accepted throughout the year
  • Nominations must be made on a 12 Who Care nomination form and sent to:
    12 Who Care, 1070 E. Adams St., Jacksonville, FL 32202
  • Nominations must include a photograph of the nominee and two letters of recommendation from individuals other than family members.
